Some of you may or may not have come across the artist/model turned actor Rick Genest (32) also known as “Zombie Boy”. I first came across him in Lady Gaga’s Born This Way (2011) video. I then noticed Genest popping up in certain glossy magazines in campaigns for Thierry Mugler and then in feature films such as 47 Ronin (2013) and Suicide Squad (2016).
His body art was so impressive that it influenced the American Horror Story series of Murder House S01E07 wherein Tate Langdon (Evan Peters) emulates Genest.
As a follower of the film and fashion industries I was aware of Genest’s impressive body art and can say whole heartedly that I was bowled over by the sheer dedication. It may not be to everybody’s taste but I hope that ‘we’ the faceless online community are able to look beyond the aesthetics and contemplate the contribution that this individual had in his depiction of what beauty is and how looking unconventional whether intentional or not is to be celebrated.
